Overview: Online Writing Jobs is a freelancing website for writers who want to earn extra income online.

It says that the average payout ranges between $27 and $10 per project, depending on the project specs, which is good.

But the question is, is this the right online writing website for you?

Let’s find out.

What Is Online Writing Jobs?

Online Writing Jobs is an online website for freelance writers where you can hire writers and work as a writer to earn some money.

A content provider (also known as a content mill) matches freelance writers with clients from independent bloggers to large businesses.

It was founded in 2006 and is located in New York City.

The site is basically for writers that have strong skills and talent.

Also, they offer different writing gigs for very specific topics like automotive, education, medical, health, science, technology, and travel.

As I mentioned earlier, the average payout ranges from $10 to $27 depending on the project specifications.

How Does Online Writing Jobs Work?

Online Writing Jobs How It Works

There are four specific categories you can apply, and that is:

  • SEO Content
  • Copywriting
  • Bloggers and Influencers
  • Subject Specific Experts

SEO Content

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is a unique type of writing to write an article based on a specific keyword.

The client will ask you to do keyword research using SEO keyword search tools like Google Keyword Planner or Jaaxy.

Good copywriters drive sales and will write good quality ads, emails, and many more.

Copywriting will write convincing copy that allows readers to take specific actions like opt-in to a form or buy something.

Bloggers and Influencers

When writing an article for bloggers and influencers, you need to be knowledgeable about their niche.

For example, if a blogger promotes products like toys, food, cars, fitness, and more, you need to be very good at writing those articles.

Subject Specific Experts

Similar to writing for a blog, this type of writing requires great industry-specified knowledge.

For example, an electrician may require to write content for their website or newsletters, or an email that may need someone to write monthly emails for their customers.

Product descriptions can fall into this category as well.

Writing for Online Writing Jobs

Finding Jobs – With Online Writing Jobs, you can choose what project you would like to work on.

The projects will be assigned to you. Instead, you have to apply for the job you think would best fit you.

However, the problem is if you’re constantly competing for popular topics.

Editorial Review – Your content will undergo a set screening by its editors.

There’s a chance that your article will be turned down for simple grammatical errors.

So always check your work before submitting them so that your work won’t be rejected.

Deadlines – With Online Writing Jobs, you will be working with deadlines that vary by project.

Your work must be submitted by 3 pm Eastern Time when it’s due because if you submit it late, you won’t get paid for it.

Clients – Online Writing Jobs will not disclose their clients. Unfortunately, this means that you will never know who you’re writing for.

Everything is done within the website.

They will not reveal who the client is, and they will ask you to sign an agreement saying that you will not work with the client directly.

Support – Their customer support is only available between 8 am to 5 am Eastern Time every Monday to Friday.

If you have any problem, you need to contact them at those times.

How Much Does It Cost?

There is no money involve if you apply for a job as a writer.

To apply or register, you need to fill out the application form and submit a writing sample.

The good part about Online Writing Jobs is that they will pay you $10 if your writing sample is accepted.

They request that you write a 500-word description for New York Yankees flags, banners, and pennants.

You are specifically optimized for search engines and using your copywriting skills.

Online Writing Jobs also requires you to submit a W9 tax form, valid ID, and proof of US residency in your application.

You can also send additional writing samples, but this one is optional, so it is up to you if you want to send it or not.

Your application will be processed within 1-3 business days, and if you didn’t get accepted, they would hold your application for 90 days.

If you did not get hired, you could apply again for 6 months from when your original application was rejected.

Requirements To Become A Writer?

Everyone can apply as long they have experience in writing.

However, you need to be at least 18 years old and live in US resident.

You also need a computer, a good fast internet connection and a comfortable place to write.

How Much Does Online Writing Jobs Pay?

The average payout ranges between $10 to $27, depending on the project specifications.

As for the payment method and frequency, Online Writing Jobs pays every Friday by check or PayPal.

The payment will not be automatically given to you. Instead, you have to invoice them as you would a regular client.

Online Writing Jobs Red Flags

Suspicious Testimonials

There’s a testimonial section on their website, and when you click, there are only a few.

Online Writing Jobs Testimonials

There’s something odd on the testimonials because it’s like they just put it in and type those testimonials on themself to make it look real.

Also, there’s no link to see if those names are real people or just made it up.

No Income Disclosure

There is no income disclosure on their website, so we don’t know how many writers earn.

Yes, it stated that you would earn more than $20 or more depending on the project.

Also, how can we tell if those writers earn some money on this website? It would be nice if there’s an income disclosure to know if these writers earn money on this website.

Is Online Writing Jobs A Scam?

No, Online Writing Jobs is not a scam. It is a legit online writing job where you can work from the comfort of your home and earn extra income.

The website is free as there is no money to apply to try it out if you are interested.

Remember, you need to have experience in writing, and if you don’t have any experience in this field of work, then this is not for you.

However, only those who live in the U.S. can apply for Online Writing Jobs.

Earning decent money as a freelance writer requires speed and efficiency. Therefore, it is important to use tools like Grammarly to check your writings if they are grammatically correct or not.

There are many tools out there, but Grammarly is worth investing in, so if you use the full length of this tool, you have to spend some money on it.

Also, you need to have a decent computer or a laptop and a good internet connection to apply for this job.

So do I recommend this website to you? Well, my answer is NO because the pay is low for me, and there are many writing jobs out there that pay much better than this.

But you are still welcome to try if you want to. Since it is free, it’s up to you.

What I Like About Online Writing Jobs

  • Weekly pay – You will get paid through check or PayPal, which method of payment you like. If you choose to check, it will take at least 5 days to receive, so if you want to get your money faster, I recommend using PayPal.
  • Informative blog – The site has an informative blog that will give you some tips about SEO writing. Here you will learn how to write good SEO articles that pay.
  • You can choose your assignments – The good thing about Online Writing Jobs is choosing what project you would like to work on.

What I Don’t Like Online Writing Jobs

  • Only available in the U.S. – As you already know, this site is only available in the U.S., so your application will be turned down for sure if you are from another country.
  • Long holding period – There are times that the positions are filled, and when that happens, they will hold your application for 90 days. Suppose you did not get the job. You have to wait for 6 months before you can re-apply.
  • Low-income opportunity – There is no passive income potential when writing for someone else, and you will only get paid once for each project.
  • Pricing is not transparent – It is hard to determine how much you will get for each article. You see, the site will decide how much you will get paid. You can’t bid for the price, unlike other freelancing sites.

Final Words and HONEST Recommendation

Working as a freelance writer is a legit job because you can earn decent money out of it.

Not just writing, there are a lot of legit jobs out there where you can also earn decent money.

However, some jobs don’t pay you well, and some of them are scams.

That is why I prefer to build my own business and earn a full-time income from the comfort of my home.

If you are looking for a way on how to make money (this is not a get rich scheme) where you can earn a full-time income and build your own business, I recommend you to check my number 1 recommendation below

  1. Hi Ivan, very useful text. By the way, I am very talented in writing and lately, I have been trying to find an additional source of income through paid writing sites. However, I cannot differentiate between what is legal and it seems to me that earnings are low. The price paid by OnlineWritingJobs for the project is quite decent. The most important thing to me is that the platform is checked, that it is not a scam.
By the way, I have a question for you, maybe you can help me. Namely, I received offers by e-mail about writing jobs related to the PaidSocialJobs and WritingJobs platforms, and they are quite intrusive. They say they are looking for very special writers from my country and they are looking for registration. They seem suspicious to me and I did not register. Are they scam?
Thanks and keep up the great work on your site.

    • Hi Danijela, thanks for your comment on my review. The good thing is, is not a scam. But if you’re looking to find gigs for yourself, I would rather suggest free platforms like Fiverr and Upwork. It takes time to establish yourself there, but once you do, clients will come to you!

As for the other two platforms, I believe both Paid Social Media Jobs and Paid Online Writing Jobs are scams. Both are low-quality products where you get access to short training on freelancing (the same stuff can be found on YouTube and Google for free), and you get links to already mentioned sites like Fiverr and Upwork. Not recommended!

  2. What? “Pricing is not transparent.” You don’t know how much you will be paid for the work you do? That doesn’t make any sense to me.

Also, the fact that the payments are low and only US residents can use this service makes it impossible for me to sign up….

I’ll be giving it a miss.
    Thanks for sharing.

  3. Writing for someone may be a good start to try how to make money online, but just like what you said here, it’s low-paid & not transparent about the pricing. They also only pay $10 for a sample, and if all positions are filled, you may need to wait for 6 months. I would rather create one website and use all my writing skills to build an affiliate marketing business, and I am sure everyone can start it today with your recommendation. 🙂

    Thanks for sharing,

    • Hi Matt Lin, thanks for your comment on the review. I would also create a site instead and work for six months to create a nice passive income online.

  4. I’ve tried writing for content mills in the past, but similar to Online Writing Jobs, the pay was low. Also, waiting to hear if you’re accepted after spending time writing a sample isn’t good. I feel if you’re a fast writer and knowledgeable in those topics you may earn a fairly decent income. However, as you rightly said, it’s not passive income and there’s no guarantee you’ll get paid. I’ve lost time and money over one or two articles that were rejected. Although you can usually edit to please the client, it could still be rejected. I much prefer your recommendation as it’s a genuine opportunity that anyone can do.
